Rádio 98 FM Rio is synonymous with success and good music. 

 

Since its creation, it has been a reference in the Rio music scene, winning over listeners of all ages. With diverse and innovative programming, 98 FM Rio stands out for its ability to reinvent itself and follow market trends these new days.

 

In the 80s, 98 FM Rio established itself as the most listened to radio station in the city. With programming that mixed the biggest national and international hits, the radio became an indispensable companion for Rio residents.

Rádio 98 FM Rio reached its peak in gross audience in the 1980s, consolidating itself as the most listened to radio station in Rio de Janeiro. During this decade, radio reached an average audience of around 1 million listeners per minute at peak times1.

 

The 90s brought new challenges and opportunities for 98 FM Rio. The radio continued to innovate, incorporating new musical styles and launching programs that became true audience successes. 98 FM also invested in technology, ensuring high quality transmission and expanding its reach beyond Rio de Janeiro.

 

Rádio 98 FM Rio has reached first place in the IBOPE survey on several occasions over the years. One of the remarkable moments was during the 80s, when the radio established itself as the most listened to in Rio de Janeiro1. 

 

The change to Beat 98 in 2008 also brought new peaks in audience, keeping the radio among the audience leaders in the city1.

 

Rádio 98 FM Rio lost its leadership among broadcasters in Rio de Janeiro in the mid-2000s. From then on, other radio stations such as FM O Dia and Melodia FM began to stand out and gain listeners' preference12.

 

The change from Rádio 98 FM Rio to Beat 98 took place on April 14, 2008. The station, with a new name, sought new musical trends and the public's taste. Beat 98 incorporated international pop music hits, as well as popular genres such as funk, axé and pagode1. However, it did not recover the high audience ratings of previous years.

 

98 FM Rio (Beat 98) was replaced by Rádio Globo Rio on November 17, 2014. This change marked the end of an era for 98 FM and the beginning of a new phase with Rádio Globo, which brought focused programming in sports, debates and interviews1.
